Marshalltown man charged with child endangerment

A Marshalltown man caught driving the wrong way down a street is charged with two counts of child endangerment.

When police pulled over Jose Andrade-Alvaradom, 43, around 9 p.m. Sunday on the 400 block of West Boone Street for the traffic violation, they discovered a 10-year-old and a 2-year-old in the car with him, said Capt. Chris Jones of the Marshalltown Police Department.

A breathalyzer revealed Andrade-Alvaradom's blood alcohol content to be twice the legal limit, Jones said.

Police charged Andrade-Alvaradom with two counts of child endangerment without injury, aggravated misdemeanors, operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor and driving the wrong way down a one-way street, a simple misdemeanor.

Leopoldo Salvador Reyes, 409 N. 14th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and a operating while vehicle license is suspended charge. He pleaded guilty to all three charges. The fine on all three charges was $250 each with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for each for a total of $397.50 on each count due immediately.

Joseph Ashby, 109 E. Lincoln St., made an initial appearance on two counts of a child endangerment charge and a interference with official acts charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on June 18. Bond will continue as posted.

Tracie Alma Renee McFarland, 610 N. Center St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Danny Triplett, 511 W. State St., made an initial appearance on a public consumption charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

Derick Gaylord Bear, 312 N. 8th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and a failure to use or maintain safety belt charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. On the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge the fine was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately. The fine on the failure to use safety belt charge was $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50 due immediately.

Yohni Villa, 305 N. 12th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge and a passing too near a bridge, intersection or railroad charge. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on June 29.

Debora Jean Hunter, 716 Noble St., made an initial appearance on a public consumption charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

Shawn LeRoy Bailey, of Geneseo, Ill., made an initial appearance on a theft, fourth degree charge. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on June 18. Bailey was released on his own recognizance.

Patrick Keegan Bracy, 607 Lee St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Stephen Leo Schossow, 707 S. 7th Ave., made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge, a no driver's license charge and a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded not guilty to the no insurance charge and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on June 29. On the no driver's license charge, he pleaded guilty and was fined was $200 with a $70 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $335 due immediately. The fine on the driving under suspension charge for which he pleaded guilty was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Lindsay Allan Naylor, 112 W. Grant St., made an initial appearance on a manufacturing of a Schedule I Controlled substance (marijuana) charge, a tax stamp violation charge and a prohibited acts charge. Naylor will hire Brad Rutherford to represent him in these cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on June 18. Bond will continue as posted.

Kelsey Jean Esquivel, of Rhodes, made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge and a driving under suspension charge. She pleaded not guilty to the no insurance charge and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on June 26. On the driving under suspension charge, she pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Peggy Woods, 713 Union St., made an initial appearance on a violation of compulsory education law charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 plus court appointed attorney fees, due immediately.

Analilia Barrera Pantoja, 203 E. South St., made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge, a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and a unlawful use of a driver's license charge. She pleaded guilty to the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and the unlawful use of a driver's license charge. On the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge the fine was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately. The fine on the unlawful use of a driver's license charge was $35 with a $12.25 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $107.25 due immediately. The no insurance charge was dismissed with court costs of $60 due immediately.

Larry Robert Prusha, 816 N. 4th Ave., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

Thomas James Wall, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a child endangerment charge, a obstruction of emergency communications charge and a simple domestic assault charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on June 18. Wall was released on his own recognizance. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Yolanda Carter, 411 S. 2nd St., made an initial appearance on a violation of compulsory education law charge. The charge was dismissed and the court costs were waived.

Juan C. Avalos, 601 E. Linn St., made an initial appearance on a serious domestic assault charge. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on June 15. Avalos was released on his own recognizance.

Rodney Alan Young, 405 W. Church St. Apt. #5, made an initial appearance on a simple assault charge and a interference with official acts charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. On the simple assault charge the fine was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately. The fine on the interference charge was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Alex Anaya, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order charge. He pleaded guilty and was ordered to spend seven days in jail beginning at 9 a.m. on June 9 to serve the balance of the sentence.

Gatwech Biet, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated, third offense charge, a driving while revoked charge, a no insurance charge, a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge, an open container charge, a speeding charge, an operating vehicle while license is suspended charge and a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on June 5. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. The court ordered that Biet obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Eric Michael Curley, 511 Woodbury St., made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Scheduling Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on June 4. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

Todd Lynch, 206 Nicholas Dr. Apt. #31, made an initial appearance on a parole revocation charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. No bond was allowed in this case.

Samantha Mae Axley, 206 S. 6th St., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire at 1302 W. Linn St., a good intent call to 900 E. Anson St., a search for a person is the water in the 900 block of South Six Street and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 304

W. State St., and two calls to 407 W. Church St.

Sunday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke or other gas scare at 105 W. Boone St., a smoke or odor removal at 1702 S. 7th Ave., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 9 S. 6th St., 3009 Arnold Dr., 2510 S. 6th St., 116 N. 1st St., and 924 Turner St.

Saturday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 915 W. Merle Hibbs Boulevard, 126 E. Main St., 1702 S. 7th Ave., 206 Nicholas Dr., 1 W. Grant St., and 512 N. 5th St.

Friday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a hazardous condition at 206 W. Linn St., an extrication/rescue of victims on South Sixth Street, and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 203 Thunderbird Dr., 312 W. High St., 1406 W. Church St., and 2510 S. 6th St.

Thursday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a no incident found on scene when arrived at 8 N. 4th St., an arcing, shorted electrical equipment in the 500 block of East Nevada Street, a carbon monoxide incident at 1111 W.
