Johnston takes two from Marshalltown softball

JOHNSTON - The first road trip of the season for the Marshalltown softball team resulted in a pair of losses to host Johnston on Tuesday.

The Dragons swept the cross-CIML doubleheader, 6-1 and 13-3.

A five-run first inning put Johnston in control in the opener against MHS pitcher Taylor Vaske.

Kaley Mead had three hits for the Bobcats, while Lauren Mazour added two hits and an RBI. Cassidy Blackford also had two hits. Hailee Beals had a hit and a run scored.

Taylor Wagner had a single and home run and drove in all three Marshalltown runs in the second game. Madi Bellile added two hits and a run scored. Mazour took the loss in the pitching circle.

The Bobcats (2-3) return home to host Waukee in the first CIML Iowa Conference doubleheader of the summer on Thursday starting at 6:15 p.m.
