A great day for Kids Safety Camp

June 9, 2012
Sgt. Rick Bellile, Marshalltown Police Department Nicki Reynolds, Community Y, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

On June 1 nearly 110 kids came together at the Community Y campus for the 2012 Kids Safety Camp. The kids ranged from second through fourth grade and came from schools in Marshalltown, Marshall County and neighboring counties. The Marshalltown Police Department and Community Y have co-hosted this event since 2000. This event was not held the last two years due to low number of sign-ups, but with more than 100 kids and a beautiful day, the return was a great success.

We would like to thank all the businesses and service clubs that donated money and helped sponsor Safety Camp. This includes: Morning Glory Bakery, Sam's Club, Evening Optimist Club, Fisher Controls, Assistance League, Farmer's Saving's Bank, Lennox, Mitchell Family Funeral Home, Taco Johns, Child Abuse Prevention Services, Vogel Funeral Home, Morning Optimist, Noon Kiwanis Club, TM Hibbs Farms, JBS, the UPS Store and DC Sports in Newton.

To the people and instructors with the Marshalltown Fire Department, Marshalltown Area Paramedic Service, Animal Rescue League, Union Pacific Railroad, Farm Bureau and the Community Y lifeguards; thanks for your time and helpful information. Thanks also to the Marshall County Pork Producers who came out and grilled for lunch, and to the five sky divers from Skydive Iowa, who landed to help start out our day.

Finally, thanks to all the kids and team counselors who participated and helped out to make 2012 Kids Safety Camp a great day!
