John E. Blake, age 87, of Hot Springs, Ark., formally of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, in the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with Rev. Ian McMullen officiating.
He was born in Washington on July 6, 1925, the son of Ralph Blake and Lilas Shopbell Blake. He was Presbyterian in his faith. John was a World War II Navy Veteran and in April of this year he and fellow Marshalltown World War II veterans participated in the honor flight to Washington D. C. John and Barbara were owners of, Maxwell's own, "Blake's Coffee Cup." You may have enjoyed a piece of homemade pie in which he made.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara Blake; two sons and daughters-in-law: John (Dianne) Blake and Bob (Janean) Blake; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Richard Blake and Keith Blake.
