Michael Mohon, 1400 Lincoln Towers Circle #302, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated/first offense charge, a no insurance charge, an open container charge, an operation without registration charge, an armed with intent to commit assault charge, a felon in possession of a firearm charge and a carrying a weapon charge. Mohon will hire Barry Kaplan to represent him in these cases before the court. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Aug. 24. Bond is set at $5,000. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party. The court ordered that Mohon not be allowed to leave in possession of his firearms or ammunition and that he contact the sheriff to make arrangements to turn over any other firearms and ammunition.
Shonna Jenkins, 1601 Marion St. Apt. L1, made an initial appearance on a serious domestic assault charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 4. She was released on her own recognizance. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.
Sat Tun Sein Tai Mai, 201 N. 2nd Ave. Apt. #32, made an initial appearance on a theft, fifth degree charge. The court appointed Laura Sopher to represent him in this matter. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Sept. 25. Tai Mai was released on his own recognizance.
Javier Avina, 301 N. 1st Ave. Apt. #1, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Sept. 13 until the debt is completed.
Kurt Prue, of Le Grand, made an initial appearance on a dogs barking charge. He will represent himself in this matter. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Sept. 25. Prue was released on his own recognizance.
Brian Wauters, of Gilman, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated charge and a driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 4. Wauters was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

On Aug. 6, Scott William Doc Slocum, 1911 Summit St., was arrested for absence from custody.
On Aug. 3, Jessica Mary Buffington, 412 W. Madison St., was arrested for operating while intoxicated/second offense, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway and open container driver.
On Aug. 4, a car driven by Kirk Roland Dahms, of Gladbrook, was westbound on Garwin Road when, it went around a curve, began to hydroplane and went out of control and entered the right ditch going over Taylor Avenue before coming to rest on the south side of the intersection. Dahms was possible injured and passenger Kenneth Dahms, of Gladbrook, was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with injuries. Dahms was cited for no insurance and failure to maintain control. Damage to the Dahms car was estimated at $3,000.
