Iowa Care Package needs your help

August 21, 2012
Ron Fisher, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

Last year Iowa Care Package, Inc. shipped 1,393 Iowa Care Packages to deployed soldiers in combat zones around the world. So far this year we have shipped 237 Iowa Care Packages to military personnel in combat zones.

As of today, we have enough supplies and checkbook balance to ship approximately 60 more Iowa Care Packages before our resources are exhausted.

All of our funds go toward the purchase of goods and shipping cost with the balance of our services being performed by unpaid volunteers.

The need for Iowa Care Packages continues. Despite news reports that would lead you to a different conclusion, our country continues to regularly deploy fresh military personnel to Afghanistan.

In fact, I have a friend whose son will be deployed on Sept. 1 to Afghanistan for another one year tour. It would seem that this war is far from over.

We receive daily requests for Iowa Care Packages from soldiers and their families asking for our care packages.

We also regularly send Iowa Care Packages to the Craig Joint Theater Hospital at the Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan for distribution to soldiers recovering from combat wounds.

From our beginning, It has been our custom to not ask for donations until they are needed and now it's time to ask.

Please send anything that you and yours can donate which will be greatly appreciated and quickly be converted into Iowa Care Packages.

Please send your contributions to:
