Local man charged with child endangerment with injury

A Marshalltown man faces a charge of child endangerment after allegedly injuring a 12-year-old boy who he was looking after.

Police arrested Randy Johnson, 64, Tuesday night after he allegedly disciplined the boy, leaving a mark on the his arm, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Johnson was watching the boy at his mother's home on the 400 block of South First Avenue when the alleged endangerment occurred. The boy was playing with a friend, another 12-year-old, prior heading to his father's home on the 500 block of North Center Street. Police arrived shortly afterward and arrested Johnson, Hanken said.

Hanken declined to comment on the boy's relation to Johnson. Because the boy did not need medical attention and his injury was not lasting, Johnson's charge, child endangerment with injury, remains an aggravated misdemeanor-the same as a child endangerment without injury.
