SPORTS SHORTS: GMG netters split with Cedar Valley

GARWIN - The GMG volleyball team split a doubleheader with Cedar Valley Christian on Thursday night, falling 2-0 in the opener and winning 2-1 in the nightcap.

The visitors scored the opening match, 25-16, 25-18. Sara Hinson had eight digs and Abbie Duden five to lead GMG in the first match. Olivia Barrett led with two kills and two blocks.

The Wolverines rallied to take the second match, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13. Duden had 15 digs and four service aces, while Jennifer Borota and Hinson had 10 digs apiece. Hinson led with four kills while Caitlin Appelgate chipped in four aces and two blocks.

MHS freshmen fall to Waukee

WAUKEE - The Marshalltown freshman football team got outscored 41-12 by host Waukee on Thursday night.

San Arneson and Alex Edel accounted for the Bobcats' touchdowns.

Sam Rogers blocked a punt and Kyler Ladehoff had an interception for the MHS defense.
