CONRAD - South Tama captured the team title at the Comet Round Robin on Saturday on the strength of its match record, breaking away from a three-way tie atop the tournament standings.
South Tama, Aplington-Parkersburg and North Polk all tied with 4-1 match records but the Trojans (5-2) went 9-2 in games. North Polk (9-3) was 8-3 while Aplington-Parkersburg (10-1) went 8-4 after suffering its first loss of the season to North Polk.
Tournament host BCLUW was blanked in five matches, winning just one game in falling to 1-5 after the first week of the season.
The Comets' most contested loss of the day was against Benton, when the Bobcats escaped with a 21-19, 8-21, 15-13 triumph.
Reeba Box led BCLUW with 21 kills and six blocks, while Olivia Callaway racked up 20 kills and four blocks. Box also served 28-for-28 with two aces.
Kendall Scurr had 14 kills and was 35-for-36 serving with an ace. Nicole Montgomery added 10 kills and was 31-for-33 with a team-high five aces.
