CONRAD - Junior quarterback Conner Ubben threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another - all in the fourth quarter - to help the BCLUW football team take down Montezuma, 33-19, for its first win of the season.

The Comets (1-1) led 14-13 going into the fourth before pulling away with 19 unanswered points. Ubben connected with Taylor Sams for a 15-yard touchdown, dove in from 1 yard out, and hooked up with Lane Caster for a 15-yard scoring strike to put BCLUW ahead 33-13.

Montezuma added a late score on an 81-yard kickoff return by Codi Townsend, but the deficit was too much for the Braves (1-1).

Touchdown runs by Deonce Cushinberry and Taylor Case put the Comets out front 14-7 at the half. Montezuma bookended BCLUW's first two scores with a pair of Zach Gibson touchdown passes to get within 14-13 going into the fourth.

Ubben finished 8-for-20 for 136 yards and two scores and two interceptions. Caster caught five passes for 93 yards, and Sams had three grabs for 50 years.

Case piled up 93 yards rushing on 22 attempts, and Luke Asche added 73 yards on nine attempts.

Cushinberry and Tyler Lutes led the Comet defense with nine tackles apiece, while Wyatt Gunderson had two tackles for loss, one fumble recover and one interception.

BCLUW plays its first road game next Friday, facing off with East Marshall in Le Grand in a non-district clash.
