PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled first baseman Jeff Clement on Monday, selecting his contract from Class A Advanced Bradenton just three days after he was sent there.
Clement, a Marshalltown native, made a pinch-hit appearance with the Pirates in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Houston Astros.
He flied out to center field in the bottom of the fifth inning in his lone at-bat.
Pittsburgh designated infielder Oscar Tejada for assignment to make room for Clement on the club's 40-man roster.
Clement, the third overall pick of the Seattle Mariners in the 2005 draft, is 0-for-7 with the Pirates since being recalled Aug. 24.
He hit .276 with 16 home runs, 35 doubles and 57 RBIs in 112 games with Triple-A Indianapolis this season.
