STATE CENTER - Kaitlyn Nichols had 12 kills, Whitney Benson nine and Sydney Beals eight as a balanced West Marshall attack overwhelmed South Hardin, 25-11, 25-14, 25-17, in the NICL West volleyball opener.
Beals also had two blocks and three service aces as the Trojans (5-2, 1-0) won the conference duel. McKenna Hotopp served 14-for-14 with four aces, and Alarie Craven totaled 36 assists against winless South Hardin (0-5, 0-1).
Clair Underwood, Kelsiann Halbloom and Benson each had five digs to pace West Marshall, which goes to Class 1A No. 1 Grundy Center on Thursday.
AGWSR 3, East Marshall 1
LE GRAND - AGWSR scored its first match victory of the season, taking a four-setter from East Marshall in NICL West play, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17, 25-12.
East Marshall (0-4, 0-1) was led by Claire Johnson with six kills and seven blocks. She was also 9-for-9 serving.
Katie Roseland racked up five kills, 25 digs, five blocks and 9-for-9 serving with two aces. Sam Earley was 10-for-10 to go with four kills and three blocks, while Ashley Allen accumulated 11-for-12 serving, one ace, four kills and 10 assists.
Haley Long had 12 assists, and Madison Hinegardner led with 29 digs.
On Thursday, East Marshall hosts South Hardin in league play, while AGWSR travels to face South Tama.
South Tama 3, Gladbrook-Reinbeck 0
TAMA - South Tama improved to 6-2 overall with a sweep of Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the NICL West opener, winning 25-13, 25-16, 25-22.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck (0-2, 0-1) was led by Shelton Hatch with six kills and 10-for-11 serving with two aces. Britney Keller contributed four kills and was 6-for-8 serving with an ace.
Erin Wentzien served 10-for-12 with an ace, and Taylor Weida totaled a team-high seven assists in the loss. Alyssa Christopher paced G-R with eight digs and Sidney Dilly had seven.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck hosts BCLUW on Thursday, while South Tama entertains AGWSR.
