The shooter in a February murder in Marshalltown was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Steven Etzen, 28, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received the mandatory sentence this afternoon.
Etzen was the last of three local men to appear in court today. The three were facing charges for the death of Marshalltown man Benjamin Benda. Benda was shot in the head in a Marshalltown apartment on Feb. 6. He later died at University of Iowa Hospitals.
(Posted at 3:15 p.m.) A Marshalltown man was sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with a local murder.
TJ Vaughn, 28, is charged with conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, a class B felony, in the death of Benjamin Benda.
Benda was shot in the head Feb. 6 in an apartment across the street from the Marshalltown police station.
Steven Etzen, 28, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder; he faces up to 50 years in prison. Etzen's sentencing is scheduled to begin shortly.
(Posted at 2:15 p.m.) A local man charged in connection to a February murder in Marshalltown has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Shawn Doehler, 23, is the first of three local men to be sentenced Monday in crimes related to the Feb. 6 shooting of Benjamin Benda.
Doehler is sentenced to 25 years in prison for first-degree robbery, a Class B felony and 5 years in prison for going armed with intent, a Class D felony. The sentences are to be served consecutively.
