DES MOINES - The Board of Directors of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union unanimously approved the Marshalltown YMCA as the host venue for the state swimming and diving meet through the 2017 season at its Tuesday meeting.

The IGHSAU's contract with the Marshalltown Y was set to expire upon completion of this November's state meet, but this announcement grants another five years to the local venue.

The Marshalltown Y has hosted the girls' state swimming and diving meet every year since construction of the Horne-Henry Center was completed in January 2004.

"We are pleased that Marshalltown will be the home for the Iowa Girls State Swimming and Diving meet for another five years," said IGHSAU Executive Director Mike Dick. "The Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA is an outstanding facility and we have a wonderful working relationship with their outstanding staff."

The Iowa Boys State Swimming Meet in October 2011 extended its contract with the Marshalltown Y through 2015, prior to that contract's expiration with the Feb. 11, 2012, state meet.

This year's girls' state swimming and diving meet will be held Nov. 2-3.
