Shown is Marshalltown’s Haven Restaurant, 12 N. First St. Co-owner Brian Peters announced Friday morning the business would close Oct. 26.
"There were a number of factors which contributed to the decision," said Peters. "We delayed the closure six weeks so our employees would have an opportunity to find other work."
Haven offered homemade baked goods, coffees, salads, sandwiches and soups among other items.
Fresh coffee was a speciality.
"When we placed an order, our supplier roasted it then, so it was as fresh as it could be, said Peters. "The coffee we had on hand was never more than two weeks old."
Peters said he will miss many regular customers that he came to know after 2.5 years of business.
"I'm going to miss many, many wonderful people we got to know," he said. "They weren't friends before because we did not know them, but they are now."
Peters said he and Carnahan would entertain offers to purchase the business.
"If no one buys it, then we'll liquidate," he said.
"We want to thank all of the folks who supported us," he said. "Maybe they'll invite us over to their place after we close."
Peters said he was undecided about future plans.
Carnahan could not be reached at press time.
