John L. Leise Sr., 96, of Liscomb, died, Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Southridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at the Liscomb Church of Christ in Liscomb. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Pursel Davis Funeral and Cremation Care, in Marshalltown. Interment will be at the Liscomb cemetery. John was born Dec. 7, 1915, to Henry and Alma (Lathe) Leise in Liscomb. He graduated from Marshalltown High School. He attended Cornell College. John served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. John was united in marriage to Laura "Grayce" Rathbun on Sept. 4, 1938, in Clinton. He farmed in the rural Liscomb area most of his life. John was a crop reporter for 25 years and served on the civil air patrol for many years. He was a member of the Liscomb Church of Christ, American Legion, Odd Fellows, Marshalltown Masons serving as the Council Chapter Commander, Lions Club, Eastern star, Rebekahs, Life member of the NRA and the Die Hards Fishing Club.
John will be missed by two daughters: Jo (Kenneth) Clar, of Pacific, Mo., Susan Leise, of Portland, Ore.; two sons: John (Niki) Leise II, of Marshalltown, Donald S. Leise, of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Merle Leise.
