Tigers split first two at Harper CC Tournament

PALATINE, Ill. - Katelyn Yauslin had 34 kills and Mady Van Metre added 28 for?the Tigers but the?Marshalltown Community College volleyball team only managed a split at the Harper Community College Tournament Friday night.

Illinois Valley defeated the Tigers in the opener 25-18, 25-22, 25-16, but MCC bounced back to beat Logan Community College in the second match. The Tigers won in five games 25-21, 25-14, 14-25, 20-25, 15-11.

Against Illinois Valley, Yauslin had 13 kills and Van Metre added 10 kills and 10 digs, while Ashley Salgado added 17 digs. Tanya Literski also finished with a team-high 36 assists.

Yauslin recorded 21 digs against Logan in the victory. Van Metre also played well with 18 kills, while Literski had 47 assists and Salgado finished with 27 digs. Alyssa Whitmore had four of the team's 10 aces in the match.

The Tigers continue action at the Harper CC Tournament today. MCC takes on Lincoln Land at 10 a.m. and then faces Oakton at 2 p.m.
