John E. Roberts, 53, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at his home in Garwin. Private services will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.
John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving his country for 13 years until he was honorably discharged after being wounded while on Embassy Duty in 1981 during a terrorist attack in San Jose, Costa Rica. Some notable medals that John earned are Navy Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart.
Survivors include his siblings: Thomas (Sheri) Roberts, of Woodbridge, Va., Mary (Len) Marquart, of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Daniel Roberts, of Northeast Minneapolis; grandfather, Leo Thurmond, of Sullivan, Mo.; five nieces; three great-nieces; one great-nephew and aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Roberts.
