Tigers split on second day of Harper CC tournament

PALATINE, Ill. - The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team split its pair of matches for the second and final day at the Harper Community College Tournament.

The Tigers fell to nationally ranked Lincoln Land in three sets straight, 25-14, 26-24, 25-10, but bounced back with a three-set triumph over Oakton, 25-19, 25-16, 28-26.

Katelyn Yauslin and Mady Van Metre had eight kills apiece to lead the Tigers against Lincoln Land, rated 18th in NJCAA Division II.

Tanya Literski tallied 22 assists to go along with a team-high five blocks, while Libero player Ashley Salgado made 19 digs in the loss.

Against Oakton, Yauslin posted a team-leading 14 kills and Van Metre had 13 more to help MCC improve to 6-14 for the year.

Salgado had 36 digs and five ace serves, as the Tigers tallied 10 aces all told.

Literski finished with 42 assists in the sweep.

Marshalltown CC returns to the court on Wednesday with a road match against NIACC set for a 7 p.m. start in Mason City.
