John L. Jones, 79, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2013 at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel in Marshalltown. Inurnment will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, IA. Pursel Davis Funeral and Cremation Care has been entrusted with the arrangements.
John was born September 9, 1933 to John and Olive (Wilson) Jones. He graduated from St. Mary High School in St. Mary, IA. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. John was united in marriage to Harriet Alderman on April 3, 1955 in Oskaloosa. She died May 11, 2012. They resided in Norfolk, VA while John served in the U.S. Navy. In 1956 they moved to Iowa and Altoona in 1960 until 1977. They then moved to rural Colfax. Together they moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown in 2001. John was employed as a meat cutter with HyVee for many years. He then was employed with Amend Packing Co. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, and traveling.
John will be missed by a daughter; Audrey (George Case) of Colfax, two sons; Bob (Shelley) Jones of Dawson, IA, Ron (Tina) Jones of Algona, IA, three grandchildren; Robert, Ronnie, Jaicie, six great grandchildren, and a brother Norris (Alberta) Jones of Pahuska, OK He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Harriet, his parents, and two brothers; Marvin and Bryan.
