Associate Court

Yesenia Diaz, 1306 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a theft, fifth degree charge. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 25. Diaz was released on her own recognizance.

Isaac Gallegos, address unknown, made an initial appearance on two arrest warrants for a probation revocation for voluntary absence charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The probation revocation hearing for both charges is set for 11 a.m. on Oct. 24. Bond on the first charge is $5,000 cash or surety and on the second $10,000 cash or surety.

Colin Burns, of Pleasant Hill, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated, first-offense charge and a failure to obey a stop sign charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Oct. 24. Burns was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Lisa Marie Jenkins, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a attempt to deliver methamphetamine charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Oct. 15. Bond is set at $50,000 cash or surety.

Melvin Laverne Mathis, of Toledo, made an initial appearance on a harassment of a public official charge, a possession of stolen property charge, a improper use of registration charge, a driving under suspension charge, a no insurance charge, a non-registered vehicle charge and a improper rear lamp plate charge. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. On the possession of stolen proper charge the court appointed Michael Marquess to represent him before the court. The pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Nov. 6. Mathis was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he be photographed and fingerprinted before release.

Hector Varela, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a dog at large charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $25 with a $8.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $93.75, due immediately.

Tonyika Lewis, 134 E. Main St. Apt. #310, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge and a trespass charge. She pleaded guilty to both charges. On the public intoxication charge the fine was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due immediately. The fine on the trespass charge was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due immediately.

Incidents

On Thursday, Genesis Chinchilla, 307 N. 14th Ave., reported scratch damage to the driver and passenger side doors on a 2007 Chevy Tahoe while parked in the south parking lot at Marshalltown Community College. Estimated value of damage was $400.

On Wednesday, Melissa Prusha, 1014 S. Center St., reported the theft of a pistol, a shotgun, a 1935 silver certificate, a safe, a women's wedding ring, a women's anniversary ring, a jewelry box, a men's 2009 class ring and a carton of cigarettes from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $2,660.

On Wednesday, Bethany Anderson, 805 W. Iowa Ave., reported four tires slashed on a 2007 Chevy Suburban. Estimated value of damage was $840.

On Thursday, Brian Fredrick Gray, 918 S. 1st Ave., was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, marijuana.

On Friday, Melvin Laverne Mathis, of Toledo, was arrested on a Marshalltown Police Department warrant for driving under suspension.
