Top-ranked Little Cyclones swim past Marshalltown

AMES - Top-ranked Ames won every single in the pool Tuesday night during a home meet against the Marshalltown Bobcats.

The Little Cyclones also recorded clean sweeps in diving and the 100 and 500 freestyle events, and grabbed the top two places in the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly during a 131-55 victory.

The Bobcats scored second-place finishes in all three relays.

The 200 medley relay team of Chloe Kuehner, Raechel Hannam, Therese Kuhlman and Melisa Fonseca turned in a time of 2 minutes, 0.79 seconds.

The 200 freestyle relay consisted of Leah Barkema, Kuehner, Kuhlman and Hayley Lillibridge and that foursome hit the wall in 1:47.76. The 400 freestyle relay squad recorded a time of 4:02.39 with Lillibridge, Barkema, Maggie Carnahan and Fonseca.

Individual runner-up finishes included Carnahan in the 200 individual medley (2:38.87), Barkema in the 100 backstroke (1:08.73) and Kuehner in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.13).

Kuehner also was third in the 100 butterfly as she finished in 1:04.69. That time was just 0.26 seconds off second place. Barkema was third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.89, while Lillibridge was third in the 200 freestyle (2:06.75) and Barske was third in the 200 individual medley (2:40.68). The final individual third-place finish came from Kuhlman in the 100 breaststroke as she finished 3.5 seconds behind Kuehner in 1:15.53.

MHS will host the Bobcat Diving Invitational on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The Central Iowa Conference diving meet will take place at 5 p.m. next Tuesday in Fort Dodge, and the CIC swim meet will be at 5 p.m. next Thursday in Fort Dodge.
