BOONE - Battling a pair of NJCAA Division II top-5 squads, the Marshalltown Community College volleyball team came up empty at the DMACC Invitational Thursday.
The Tigers (8-18, 2-2) dropped a 25-10, 25-18, 25-14 decision to No. 5 Butler. Mady Van Metre led MCC with 10 kills, Tanya Literski had 22 assists and Ashley Salgado came up with 16 digs.
Despite a double-double effort from Van Metre, the Tigers were swept by No. 4 Parkland 25-11, 25-12, 25-21. Van Metre finished with 14 kills and 13 digs. Literski had 24 assists while Salgado added 20 digs.
The Tigers return to action in Boone with a pair of matches Friday. MCC battles North Dakota School of Science at noon and Highland Community College at 3 p.m.
