Gilbert site postponed
AMES - The Class 2A state-qualifier meet hosted by Gilbert was one of seven sites postponed to Monday.
Area teams East Marshall, South Hardin and West Marshall were slated to run Thursday at the Iowa State Cross Country Course, but the meet was called off around noon by Gilbert athletic director Don Knock.
"I have had several discussions with athletic directors, coaches and many others. We feel that runner safety has to be priority one," Knock said in a statement. "With current weather conditions and the unfavorable forecast, we feel this is the best decision for the athletes.
"We would hate for the weather conditions to be a bigger factor in these races than the performances of the athletes."
Monday's meet will run with the same time schedule, starting with the girls' race at 4 p.m. and the boys to follow.
