FORT DODGE - Backed up by 10 top-10 finishes, the Marshalltown swim team took seventh place in the Central Iowa Conference girls' swim meet Thursday.
The Bobcats scored 151 points on the night. Top-ranked Ames took the team title with 362.5, while No. 4 Dowling Catholic was second with 325.5.
Marshalltown's best finish was sixth and it came from Chloe Kuehner in the 100 butterfly, Raechel Hannam in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 relay team.
Kuehner's time in the butterfly was 1 minute, 5.70 seconds, while Hannam hit the wall in 1:13.19 in the breaststroke. The 200 relay team consisted of Kuehner, Leah Barkema, Hayley Lillibridge and Therese Kuhlman and they finished in 1:45.83.
There also were several eighth-place finishes on the night. Lillibridge was eighth in the 200 freestyle and 10th in the 100 freestyle, while Barkema also took eighth in the 50 free. and Kuehner was eighth in the 100 breaststroke. The 200 medley relay team of Kuehner, Hannam, Kuhlman and Barkema also was eighth as they finished in 1:59.40.
The other two top-10 finishes came in the 100 butterfly and the 400 relay. Kuhlman was ninth in the fly with a time of 1:06.23, while the team of Lillibridge, Maggie Carnahan, Melisa Fonseca and Janet Fonseca also took ninth in the 400 relay with a time of 4:03.25.
Third-ranked West Des Moines Valley placed third on the night, while fifth-ranked Johnston was fourth, 10th ranked Mason City fifth and ninth-ranked Waukee sixth. No. 12 Ankeny, No. 27 Southeast Polk and No. 46 Fort Dodge all finished behind 18th ranked Marshalltown.
The regional diving meet will take place at Summitt Middle School in Johnston next Thursday at 6 p.m., while the regional swim meet is Oct. 27, at noon back at Summitt Middle School.
