TAMA - The South Tama volleyball team closed the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Benton Community in non-conference play Thursday, winning 25-11, 25-29, 25-19.
STC was led by Jade Rohach with 11 kills, Trisha Walz had five kills and Samantha Holtz had four. Walz also led the Trojans with 10 digs.
Holtz led STC (14-13) with three blocks and also served 18-for-18 with three of the team's 14 aces.
Benton (2-30) suffered its 17th straight loss. Maggie Weirather led the Bobcats with five kills.
South Tama opens Class 3A Region 7 play with a home contest against South Hardin on Monday at 7 p.m. in Tama.
Legion four-person best shot still open
The American Legion Golf Course still has spots available for its four-person best shot tournament set for Sunday.

MHS freshman football make-up game
The Marshalltown High School freshman football game postponed on Thursday will be made up on Monday. The Bobcats play at Dowling Catholic with a 4 p.m. kickoff in West Des Moines.
AGWSR grad Ubben honored by MVC
ST. LOUIS - Northern Iowa junior outside hitter Macy Ubben was named last week's Missouri Valley Conference volleyball Player of the Week.
Ubben, an Ackley native and AGWSR graduate, entered this week leading Northern Iowa with a 3.52 kills per set average in MVC play. Last week she had 15 kills in a 3-1 win over South Dakota State, a career-high 19 in a 3-1 triumph over Evansville, and 15 more in a sweep of Southern Illinois.
