CEDAR FALLS - Sawyer Kollmorgen threw for 187 yards and two first-half touchdowns as the Northern Iowa football team tripped up Missouri Valley Conference-leading South Dakota State with a 27-6 victory on Saturday night at the UNI-Dome.
David Johnson rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries for the Panthers (2-5, 1-3), who earned their first MVFC win over the 20th-ranked Jackrabbits (5-2, 3-1).
SDSU's Zach Zenner, who entered the weekend as the top rusher in the FCS with 1,248 yards this season (208 a game), was limited to 112 yards in 20 carries.
South Dakota State managed just two field goals by Justin Syrovatka.
Kollmorgen threw a 40-yard TD pass to Sam Rohr and added a 16-yard scoring toss to Brett LeMaster for the Panthers, who also got a pair of field goals from Tyler Sievertsen.
Northern Iowa hosts Illinois State in next Saturday's conference game at 4 p.m.
