BELLE PLAINE - Class A No. 5-ranked notched the District 4 title by beating back Belle Plaine 36-16 on Friday night in the regular season finale.
Dalton Hulme ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns on just 18 carries for the Redhawks, who closed the regular season 8-1 with a 6-0 district mark. Quarterback Jacob Wrage ran for a touchdown and threw a 26-yarder to Damon Spencer, and Brent Billerbeck took a punt back 68 yards for another score.
North Tama's defense cashed in on three interceptions - one each for Jacob Watson, Tony Weber and Billerbeck - and held Belle Plaine (6-3, 4-3) to 2 yards passing. Nolan Hefty had a team-high 14 tackles for the Redhawks, Skyler Kvidera had 13 and Brandon Kaufman 12.
Most of Belle Plaine's 191 total yards came on the ground, led by Nick Pippert's 99 rushing yards and one touchdown.
North Tama will host Turkey Valley in Wednesday's state playoff opener, while Belle Plaine will visit Starmont.
Prairie Valley 25, AGWSR 13
GOWRIE - The AGWSR football team was denied a playoff berth after Friday's 25-13 loss to Prairie Valley in Class A District 2 action. A head-to-head loss to Bishop Garrigan dropped the Cougars (6-4, 3-4) into fifth in the final district standings.
Prairie Valley's Mason Gordon rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns as the Warriors (6-3, 5-2) racked up 309 yards on the ground.
Cody Williams rushed for 42 yards and a score, and Brady Clark hauled in a 47-yard TD pass from Williams, but the Cougars managed just 189 yards of offense. Levi Stockdale made a whopping 18 tackles for the AGWSR defense.
Melcher-Dallas 86, Meskwaki 6
MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT - Trent Flesher carried 12 times for 226 yards and scored six touchdowns to lead the Saints (7-1, 6-1) past the Meskwaki Warriors (3-6, 2-5) in Friday's 8-Man District 5 finale.
Tory Schneider piled up 21 tackles and a quarterback sack to lead the Melcher-Dallas defense, which forced four turnovers. The Saints also got a 52-yard kickoff return for touchdown from Kenneth Wadle, and a 42-yard punt return to paydirt by Chase Wetterling.
