Return heartland values to statehouse

October 28, 2012
Larry A. Raymon, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

Allen Burt, candidate for Iowa House Seat 71, is running against six-term incumbent Mark Smith. Allen is a fifth generation farmer whose family represents the epitome of "true grit." His dad, Don Burt, was once accidentally struck in the arm by a piece of farm machinery. A lawyer wanting to sue the farm machinery manufacturer was in Don's hospital room before he regained consciousness. When he did wake up, Don ran the lawyer out of his room because it was an accident, and he refused to blame the manufacturer of the equipment.

While trying to prevent an accident on Highway 14, Allen himself suffered traumatic injuries when he was struck by a car. He never complained or blamed others. His family does not do that. That's the kind of leadership America and the Iowa legislature needs - those who are willing to suffer life's consequences and to learn to lead in spite of them. His style of leadership does not apologize for those who earn success from their own hard work. He wants good paying jobs, top notch education and a tax and regulatory environment that encourages business investment. He wants more people paying less taxes.

Allen Burt will return your calls when you have information to share or problems to solve. If Allen Burt thinks his party caucus is wrong and not in the best interests of his constituency, he will vote against them and they will know the reason why.

Please do not miss this opportunity to vote for Allen Burt on Nov. 6 and help return heartland values to the Iowa Legislature.
