Marilyn J. Elliott, 82, of Laurel, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Services for Marilyn will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Laurel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow services at the Graceland Cemetery near Laurel. Visitation for Marilyn will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Marilyn was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Laurel, the daughter of Harold Leonard and Avis Marjorie (Otten) Brown. She was raised and educated in Laurel attending the Laurel School System. On Aug. 1, 1954, in Laurel, Marilyn was united in marriage to the love of her life, George Elliott. Marilyn and George made their home in Laurel for all of their married lives where they raised their children. Early in their married years Marilyn worked for Boss Freight Lines and later the Security Savings Bank. Throughout her lifetime she was a member of Faith Evangelical Church of Laurel and later years attended the Laurel United Methodist Church, the Laurel Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women. Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her Wednesday morning coffee group at the Laurel Cafe and tending to her flower beds, but most of all she loved attending her grandchildren's sporting and musical activities. Above all, Marilyn was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and will be greatly missed by all.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Elliott; her children: Lori Elliott Edwards, of Laurel, Lisa (Karl) Alspach, of Buford, Ga., Lana Elliott Anderson, of Laurel, and Loni Elliott, of Laurel; her grandchildren: Matthew (Stefanie) Everts, of Moberly, Mo., Michela (John) Augustine, of Marshalltown, Ryan (Jennifer) Alspach, of Georgia, Alyssa Alspach, of Buford, Ga., Brett, Alexa, Noah, Elijah and Riley Anderson, of Laurel, Payton Edwards, of Laurel and Talon Elliott, of Laurel; her great-grandchildren: Skyler and Samantha Everts, of Moberly, Mo., Maggie and Ava Augustine, of Marshalltown, and Christian and Owen Alspach, of Georgia; her three sisters: Janet Lutes, of Georgia, Nancy Ferguson, of Illinois, and Bette (Steve) Brindle, of Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law Norman Anderson.
