On March 27, stacks of petitions were delivered to 11 Iowa legislators. The petition, which included over 25,000 signatures from Iowans, asked the Iowa Senate for a chance to vote on the Iowa Marriage Amendment. However, the petitions intended for Sen. Sodders and three other senators were rejected. After having petitions sent to their desks, those delivering them were informed that the senators were "not taking these anymore." The chief enforcement officer of the Senate Chambers, answerable to Sen. Mike Gronstal, said he had been "instructed to send them back." Sen. Sodders never took any action to receive the petitions.
