Marshalltown Police Department is investigating a possible fundraising scam involving Miller Middle School.

Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce Vice President Lynn Olberding notified Chamber members via email Wednesday that someone has been soliciting area businesses to purchase ads on dry erase boards to give to Miller Middle School.

Jacy Large, principal a Miller Middle School, said the school is not holding any such fundraiser.

Capt. Chris Jones, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said police are investigating the matter but do not have enough evidence to substantiate whether a crime took place as of Wednesday afternoon.

He said that doesn't mean a crime hasn't taken place. The MPD will continue to work with the school to investigate the matter.

The Chamber hasn't received call for solicitation, Olberding said, but wanted its members to be aware of the potential scam.
