A Marshalltown Police Officer is in the hospital after a man accused of robbing Lennox Employees Credit Union fired shots during a foot pursuit.
Police have arrested two men in connection with the robbery after 9:30 a.m. Friday morning. They are Abel Ramirez, 22, of Marshalltown, who is charged with first degree robbery and Ben Crisantos, 22, of Marshalltown, who is charged with attempted murder.
During a foot chase, it is alleged Cristantos turned and shot a Marshalltown Police Department officer, Vern Jefferson, striking the officer in the leg. Jefferson returned fire, striking the suspect. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center.
Marshalltown schools went into what is known as "shelter in place" which they kept students in the classrooms, for 1.5 hours until approximately 11 a.m.
