McCOOK LAKE, S.D. - The Morningside College men's cross country team recorded its highest finish in school history Saturday with a runner-up effort at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, and on Monday the 23rd-ranked Mustangs gained an at-large berth to the NAIA National Championships.
Morningside totaled 55 points to trail GPAC champion Concordia by only seven points in Saturday's race at Adams Nature Preserve. BCLUW graduate Jay Welp, a sophomore, was the Mustangs' second-best finisher with a 10th-place result coming in a time of 25 minutes, 35.28 seconds.
The NAIA National Championships will be held Nov. 17 at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash.
ISU libero Hahn honored yet again
AMES - For the second week in a row, and the sixth time this season, Iowa State libero Kristen Hahn has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
The junior averaged 6.33 digs per set last week as the Cyclones swept South Dakota State and Texas Tech. Hahn also contributed seven assists and a service ace during the week.
Iowa State's next match is a road trip to Oklahoma on Saturday.
Hawkeye wrestle-offs begin Thursday
IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa wrestling program will host its annual wrestle-offs Thursday, Friday and Saturday inside the Dan Gable Wrestling Complex at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Wrestle-offs begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The event is free to the public, and fans are asked to use the North entrance. Public parking is available in surrounding lots on Thursday, but very limited Friday and Saturday.
