HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The win streaks stood firm after the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team tried its luck.
NJCAA Division I sixth-ranked Hutchinson (3-0) collected its 64th consecutive home court victory and its 44th straight regular season triumph, turning back MCC 85-43 in the second game of the Lady Dragon Classic on Friday night.
"They're aggressive, they're strong, they're athletic, they press well, and we couldn't handle the pressure," said MCC head coach Alison Lacey. "We had 38 turnovers tonight, but I was glad we hung with them for a while."
Lacey said the Tigers were within 17-12 with 9 minutes remaining in the first half before Hutchinson began to pull away.
Shantal Tobler led Marshalltown CC (0-2) with 14 points and Latrice McMullen finished with 12. Ashley Salgado chipped in eight points, while Mackenzie Gott had six points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Mady Van Metre added three points for the Tigers, who take on Tabor College JV in today's 3:30 p.m. contest.
The MCC women play their home opener on Wednesday night, hosting North Central Missouri at 5:30 p.m.
