Mary Marcella Kersey Ross, 84, of Marshalltown, IA died Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Iowa Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. Vigil Service, Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Main St. Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, in Marshalltown. Mary was born June 7, 1928 in DesMoines, IA the daughter of George and Marcella (Walsh) Kersey. She attended Holy Trinity grade school and St. Joseph Academy High School. Mary graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing with her LPN degree, and worked for 7 years on OB at the Marshalltown Hospital. Mary was united in marriage to Tom Ross on October 30, 1948 and moved to rural Marshalltown where she actively participated in farming and kept very busy raising six children. Mary was very active at St. Mary Catholic Church. She also enjoyed 20th century club, St. Patrick's Study Club and participated with her husband in 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. She and Tom loved music and dancing. Mary loved her family and enjoyed cooking and baking for large family dinners. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always looked forward to seeing them. Mary also loved Las Vegas where her and Tom have spent many winters and made wonderful lifelong friends.
Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, Tom Ross, six children; Linda Ross of DesMoines, Ed (Betsy) Ross of Kirksville, MO, Tim (Annette) Ross of Peachtree City, GA, Mark (Kathy) Ross of Marshalltown, Becky Ross of Marshalltown, Julie (Jerry) Logan of Marshalltown. eight grandchildren; Toby, Tawny, Marty, Ryan, J.J., and Sara Ross, John and Macy Logan, four great grandchildren, Mason, Ethan, Christopher, and Olivia, one sister, Phillis Brennan of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Bobby Ross, and her parents.
