The cold weather is coming, but that doesn't mean that playground fun has to go away. Marshalltown Parks and Recreation has brought back Tot Town, a free indoor playground set up three mornings a week at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The playground features riding toys, slides, balls, playhouses and other toys in a gym full of items. It runs from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

New Marshalltown resident Chris Kabes brought his two girls, Maya, 3, and Molly, 2, to Tot Town earlier this week. Both girls sported big smiles as they ran around and played with the equipment and other children.

Maya Kabes, 3, and Lucas Paulsen, 4, play at the Tot Town indoor playground at Veterans Memorial Coliseum Tuesday.

"It's nice to not be cooped up at home," Kabes said. "It's also fun for them to learn how to get along with other kids."

Jill Paulsen brought her son Lucas, 4, to the playground this week. He has been a regular visitor to Tot Town through the years. His mom said it makes for quieter afternoons at home when Lucas gets to play at Tot Town in the morning.

"He gets to burn off energy here," Jill Paulsen said.

Jenni Hart of Parks and Recreation, said Tot Town typically draws 30 to 40 people each day it is open.

It is open through April 5, aside from holidays or on days when school is closed for the weather. For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 641-754-5715.
