Man accused of assaulting woman in front of children

Police arrested a local man Saturday for allegedly assaulting a woman in front of her children.

Tyler Sanders, 20, of Marshalltown, allegedly shoved the 22-year-old woman to the floor before forcing her into another room, throwing her to the couch and brandishing a knife in her face, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

The incident occurred at the home where Sanders lives with his mother on North Ninth Street. The 3-year-old and 7-year-old girls are Sanders's nieces.

Police charged Sanders with two counts of child endangerment without injury, aggravated domestic assault, aggravated misdemeanors, contempt of court for violating a no contact order in place on the woman, a simple misdemeanor, and false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor.

Adam Scott Leiva, 108 S. 3rd St., made an initial appearance on a possession of meth with the intent to deliver charge, a possession of marijuana charge, a possession of stolen property charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 6. Bond is set at $100,000 cash only.

Tyler Pritchett, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. Pritchett's file was sent to the District Court for scheduling of a probation revocation hearing as their docket permits. Bond is set at $50,000 cash or surety.

Jessie Leroy Freland, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a possession of meth with intent to deliver charge, a failure to affix a drug tax stamp charge, an interference with official acts charge and a criminal trespass charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 6. Bond is set at $100,000 cash only.

Rochelle Marie Smitherman, of Gladbrook, made an initial appearance on a eluding charge, a unlawful possession of prescription drugs charge, a possession of meth charge, a possession of alprazolam charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge, a theft-fifth degree charge, a no insurance charge, a operation without registration charge and a driving under suspension charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 14. Smitherman was released on her own recognizance. The court ordered that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Alex Anaya, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge and a violation of probation charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. On the possession of marijuana charge the preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 6. The probation revocation hearing is set for 10 a.m. on Dec. 14. Bond in both cases is set at $3,000 cash only. Upon release Anaya is required to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today's date.

Ward Duffy, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Dec. 24 until the debt is paid or in lieu of the fine and surcharge Duffy may do 12 hours of community service plus pay court costs of $60 to be completed by March 31, 2013.

Lual Kong Tugour, 309 N. 12th Ave., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. Tugour wanted to speak with an attorney before entering a plea. The court appointed Michael Marquess to represent him in this case. The pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 18 in Magistrate Court.

Chance Kadner, 201 Granite St., made an initial appearance on a possession of marijuana charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 14. Kadner was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Taylor Adrian Gerths, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a harassment of a public official charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due immediately. On Sunday, Mickella Katherine Rolfes, 1208 E. Nevada St., reported the theft of a iPhone 4 from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $500.

On Saturday, Kittie Curley, 606 W. Linn St., reported the theft of a Browning BDA 380 semi-automatic firearm and a Smith & Wesson revolver from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $700.

On Saturday, the police department received a report of the theft of a Kink Curb boy's bicycle from the front yard at 306 Woodbury St. Estimated value of loss was $200.

On Friday, Shireen Kay Williams, 303 N. 5th Ave. Apt. #2, reported damage to all four tires on a vehicle while parked at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $300.
