James Mairs

James Mairs, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 at his home.

Born November 24, 1922 in Altamont, Kansas Jim graduated from Labette County High School, Altamont. He was awarded his B.S. from Iowa State University and his M.S. from Drake University. Commissioned as a Lieutenant, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He was stationed in England and flew 35 combat missions. Jim was a biology teacher and coach in Collins, Huxley, Boxholm, Winterset and Marshalltown. He retired from teaching in 1985 and then worked for Iowa Crop Improvement Association for over 15 years.

Jim is survived by his children: Maury (Glennis) Mairs, Lynne (Terry) Eygabroad and Chane Mairs , grandchildren: Stacey Mairs, Lauren(Jeremy) Pratt, Elizabeth(Jay) Appel, James Nixon, Anna and Aimee Mairs, great-grandchild, Sebastian Cook.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Alma in 2010
