WATERLOO - Pedro Gomez got his revenge, but the Marshalltown wrestling team didn't come up with much else.

The Bobcats got beat up on the first day of the Battle of Waterloo, finishing 0-3 to fall into the final bracket for today's finishing rounds. MHS will wrestle against Iowa City High, Waterloo East and OA-BCIG to determine places 29-32 at the prep wrestling extravaganza.

Marshalltown suffered defeat against Class 3A No. 4 Cedar Rapids Prairie (69-6), Mason City (50-16) and Waterloo Columbus Catholic (40-31).

Gomez, Marshalltown's sixth-ranked heavyweight, avenged a 4-0 loss to third-rated Andrew Netolicky of Prairie by beating him 3-1 on Friday. Gomez scored a major decision and a second-period pin to round out his day.

Matt Vandegrift returned to the lineup and went 2-0 at 220 pounds, scoring a first-period pin against Mason City and receiving a forfeit against Columbus Catholic.

Peyton Williams (160) and Derek Mann (170) both went 2-1 for MHS, which resumes wrestling at 9 a.m. today at Young Arena.
