STATE CENTER - Duncan Ferch's career-high 26 points was not enough to help West Marshall overcome North Polk in Saturday's 53-48 non-conference loss for the Trojans.

Hunter Brunsvold scored 17 points to lead North Polk (6-2), while Russell Greene and Jacob Hadaway added 12 points apiece.

Jake Pszanka pitched in six points and six steals, while Ferch led with eight rebounds and Matt Van Metre had seven for West Marshall (6-2).

The Trojans play at AGWSR on Tuesday night.

Hudson 82, Grundy Center 58

GRUNDY CENTER - Grundy Center's season-high 58 points was not enough to snap the Spartan boys' basketball team's winless start to the season as Class 2A No. 10-ranked Hudson claimed an 82-58 victory in a non-conference game Saturday.

Isaiah Rustad matched his season-high with 25 points as one of four players to score in double figures for the Pirates (5-1), who also exceeded their previous best point total.

Antwain Strong added 14 points, Connor Wrage had 12 and Trey Uden 10 as Hudson snapped back from its first loss of the season Friday night against Union.

Brady Hook had 12 points and Elliot Eggleston 11 to lead Grundy Center (0-8), which could not overcome 28 turnovers. Ryon Appel added eight points and Jeff Pikna had seven more for the Spartans.

Grundy Center gets back into NICL West Division action with Tuesday's road game at South Hardin. The Spartans close out the first half with a boys varsity-only game Thursday at 6 p.m. at Valley Lutheran in Cedar Falls.

Montezuma 60, GMG 47

MONTEZUMA - Zach Gibson led a balanced Montezuma attack as the Braves bounced back from their first loss of the winter with a 60-47 victory over GMG in non-conference action.

Bryant Sutfin, Coleton Tompkins and Dallas Peavey pitched in nine points each for Montezuma (6-1).

Bridger Claussen scored a career-best 14 points to pace GMG (3-4). Luke Petty had 10 points, Chad Plaehn had eight points, and Blake Warren had eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Wolverines close out the first half of the season with a three-game week starting Tuesday at Janesville. GMG goes to Don Bosco on Thursday and hosts CAL Friday.
