13th Street burglary suspect arrested

A call for a man acting suspiciously resulted in the responding officer arresting a suspect in connection with a pair of burglaries back in November.

The police officer initially responded to a call that a man, Christian Mason, 18, was standing on someone's rear deck on the 400 block of West Church Street Friday. When the officer went to approach Mason, he allegedly fled, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Mason was wanted in connection to two burglaries - one at The Salvation Army Thrift Store and another nearby in a construction trailer Nov. 17. Mason allegedly stole jewelry, coins and a safe from the thrift store and $4,500 in tools from the trailer.

Mason faces two counts of third-degree burglary, one of which is a Class D felony and the other an aggravated misdemeanor, for the break-ins and a charge of interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, for fleeing police.

Police recover 14 planter boxes from Le Grand man's home

A Le Grand man could face more theft charges after he allegedly stole a planter box from a local John Deere implement dealer.

Employees at Southard Implement, 3606 S. Center St., spotted Jonathan Thompson, 28, attempting to free his truck, which had become stuck in the company's yard, Saturday, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

A search of Thompson's car revealed him to have stolen a $400 planter box, Hanken said.

Police executed a search warrant of Thompson's home and recovered 14 other planter boxes. Should police be able to determine he stole those boxes, Thompson could face more charges.

Police charged Thompson with fourth-degree theft, a serious misdemeanor, trespassing, a simple misdemeanor, and second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony, for causing $3,000 in damage to newly seeded landscaping.

Surveillance footage has helped police arrest another burglary suspect.

Police arrested Eric Seymour, 28, of Marshalltown, Thursday for allegedly cutting the locks on several storage units at a storage unit facility on the 1300 block of Jackson Street that saw a slew of break-ins in May, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.
