Phyllis Jane Cowell, 92

Phyllis Jane Cowell, 92, of Marshalltown, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at St. Luke's North Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at the State Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, formerly Estel Perrin Avey in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m., until the time of the services at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, in Marshalltown. Phyllis was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Marshalltown. She was the only child of Russell Elmer and Bertha Johanna (Raasch) Reckard. She was a graduate of Marshalltown High School and Marshalltown Junior College. In 1939, Phyllis married Joseph William Cowell, in Lancaster, Mo. Phyllis retired from Marshalltown Manufacturing and then proceeded to work another 20 years for the Brenton Bank in Marshalltown. She was a life time resident of Marshalltown until October of 2011, when she moved to Kendallwood Hills Estates, in Kansas City, Mo., to be closer to her family. Phyllis was a life-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshalltown, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Lion's Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She was a devoted wife and mother, as well as a friend to many.

Phyllis will be missed by two sons: Lanny J. (Karin) Cowell, of Lake Waukomis, Mo., and Rodney R. (Dianne) Cowell, of Spring Hill, Kan.; seven grandchildren: Brad (Kelly) Cowell, of Chicago, Ill.; Sean Cowell, of Chicago, Ill.; Tammy (Leland) Rowse, of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; Sky Lynn (Tom) Timm, of Marshalltown; Lance (Maggie) Cowell, of Leawood, Kan.; Todd (Molly) Cowell, of Overland Park, Kan.; and Tanya (Will) Rees, of Leawood, Kan.; 20 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
