It is not often the city council has no brainer decisions to make.
Regarding this issue of extending the airport runway length, their vote should be a unanimous yes.
In 1979, the mayor and council wrestled with the issue of extending the runway from 3,900 to 5,000 feet.
I personally know of the time, the work and taxpayer money involved, as well as the cost and benefits.
I know because I was mayor of Marshalltown at that time. Extending the runway was a smart move then and even a smarter move now. We need another 500 feet.
Like me, the average citizen does not need or use the extension, but those people who do make our city a better place to live and work now and into the future.
We must continue to move Marshalltown forward. This is not a cost, it is an investment.
