Marshalltown Area Catholic School first grade teacher Mary Burns has noticed a smiling face and helping hand in her classroom this year.

Those belong to 7-year-old Cale Hungerford, one of her students.

"He's a very polite young man, and he likes to help others," Burns said. "He's always aware of what others are doing and if they need help."

Burns said aside from his positive demeanor, Hungerford is also a hard worker in class.

"He's always interested in learning," Burns said.

Hungerford said he likes math because "it's really fun." He said his career goal is to become a "police officer and a golfer."
