Local man charged with threatening two MPD officers

Police charged a local man with two counts of harassment for allegedly threatening the lives of two police officers' families late Sunday night.

Luis Lopez-Perez, 24, of Marshalltown, faces a charge of operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor, and two counts of first-degree harassment, aggravated misdemeanors, following a car collision with a Marshalltown Police Department officer, according to police reports.

Lopez-Perez allegedly told one officer that he would "take care of" the officer's family and directly threatened to kill another officer's family after being arrested for the OWI, the report shows.

A sobriety test revealed Lopez-Perez's blood-alcohol content to be .217, more than two and a half times the legal limit.
