EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Seemingly every shot fell for the Bulldogs in their final game of 2012.
The rim wasn't as kind to open the New Year.
Coming off a season high 80 points on 51 percent shooting in a win over Milwaukee, the Drake women's basketball team hit just 4-of-17 from behind the arc and opened Missouri Valley Conference play with a 68-62 loss to Evansville on the road.
Mallory Ladd powered the Purple Aces with 16 points and 10 rebounds as Evansville (3-9, 1-0) snapped an eight-game skid.
Morgan Reid hit a pair from the line to pull the Bulldogs within 50-46 with 8:39 to play, before Evansville pulled away with a 17-8 flurry to grab their largest lead at 67-54 with 1:29 left.
Samantha Heck added 15 points, while Taylor Ware had 14 and Khristian Hart added 10 points and four steals as Evansville drilled 8-of-18 shots from deep.
Carly Grenfell hit a trey to open the game, but Drake (5-7, 0-1) never led the rest of the way. Evansville used a 9-0 run to create some separation midway through the first half. Ware capped the surge with a layup to give the Purple Aces an 18-7 advantage before Drake trimmed the deficit to 34-27 at the break.
Kyndal Clark led the Bulldogs with 17 points, while Morgan Reid added a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Grenfell chipped in 10 points as Drake shot 42 percent (24 of 56) from the field.
The Bulldogs return to action against Southern Illinois on the road Saturday.
