Hugh E. Unger, 91, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until the time of the services. Interment will be at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to donor's choice in remembrance of Hugh. Hugh was born Sept. 11, 1921, to Edward and Cora (Hughes) Unger in Corwith. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed with the Railroad and American Motors both in Wisconsin. He was also employed as a welder with Gibbs Cook of Mason City.
Hugh will be missed by four sons: Hugh Unger II, Albert Unger, Edward Unger and Hugh A. Unger; two daughters: Alice Embretson and Carol Keizer; eight grandchildren; two sisters: Goldia (Bill) Fett, of Nora Springs, and Alice (Bob) Wilhite, of Russell, a brother James (Margaret) Unger, of Elizabeth Town, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.
