BOYS BASKETBALL: Terrones helps Mustangs put end to 7-game slide

LE GRAND - Ben Terrones poured in a career-high 27 points and the East Marshall boys' basketball team ended a seven-game slide by stopping South Tama, 56-47, in Friday's NICL West Division showdown.

Josh Wilson added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs (2-9, 2-7), while both Walker Steward and Mitch Berry chipped in six points and Nick Mommer five.

Jose Fonseca scored 12 points to lead South Tama (4-7, 4-5), whose losing streak slipped to five games. Clay Waterbury added eight points, while Daryl Bidwell and Sam Kuhter both tallied seven for the Trojans. Kuhter led with 10 rebounds.

Both teams compete in the NICL Showdown today at Wartburg College in Waverly. South Tama takes on Jesup at 11:30 a.m., while East Marshall meets Wapsie Valley at 5:30 p.m.

North Tama 101, CAL 24

TRAER - Dalton Hulme's season-high 21 points led four players in double figures as North Tama pummeled CAL, 101-24, in Iowa Star Conference play Friday.

North Tama (12-1, 11-0) led 42-5 after the first quarter and coasted from there.

Mitchell Boerm had 18 points, six assists, five steals and four rebounds, Jacob Wrage tallied 14 points, eight assists and five steals, and Trey Keahna had a season-best 12 for the Redhawks. Hulme had six steals.

CAL (0-12, 0-10) was led by Ben Fahrmann's nine points and seven more from Andrew Quinones.

GMG 50, Northeast Hamilton 31

GARWIN - Blake Warren led a balanced GMG effort with 14 points and eight rebounds as GMG turned away Northeast Hamilton, 50-31, in Iowa Star play.

Luke Petty had eight points, Austin Vaughn had seven points and six rebounds, while both Chad Plaehn and Matt Carlon added six points for GMG (5-6, 5-4). The Wolverines outscored the Trojans 19-6 in the fourth quarter.

GMG goes to Cedar Falls tonight to face Valley Lutheran.

Austin Smith led Northeast Hamilton (4-5, 3-5) with 18 points.
