SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat sophomore boys get tripled up

JOHNSTON - The Marshalltown sophomore boys' basketball team got tripled up by Johnston on Friday night, falling 66-22.

The Bobcats (2-11) were led by Grant Thimesch with seven points. Michael Schrempf and Aaron Hauser both finished with four points.

MHS is back in action Tuesday at Cedar Falls.

Smith's big night not enough for MHS

JOHNSTON - Tony Smith's 30 points were not enough to propel the Marshalltown freshman boys' basketball team past Johnston as the host Dragons won 55-51 on Friday night.

Smith made six 3-pointers for the Bobcats (8-6). Sam Rogers contributed nine points, Kyler Ladehoff added five points while Trevor Dolezal led MHS with 14 rebounds.

Marshalltown meets up with West Des Moines Valley at 6 p.m. Monday at Valley Southwoods.
